The second youngest player of SK Gaming, albeit being a veteran himself, Seo Woo 'ReiGn' Kang, helped his team set the pace in the make or break match with a 2-0 win over Yoan 'ToD' Merlo.
He, in the first game, successfully contained his opponent in his own expansion with Necropolis and Nerubian Tower push and took the lead after killing ToD's heroes several times.
The second game didn't look good for the Undead player at the start, but he had a great sense of timing when ToD was saving money at 50 food in middle game and pulled Human's expansion with a superior army. Since then he kept having merely a 20 food lead with his own expansion running and finished off the game at the 23rd minute.
Sung Sik 'ReMinD' Kim and Seong Deok 'SoJu' Lee together added SK Gaming's lead to 2-0 with victories over Gravitas Gaming pair Mykhaylo 'HoT' Novopashyn and Samuli 'elfittaja' Sihvonen. The Korean duo succeeded in harassing their counterparts in early game and consequently delayed their AP push a bit afterwards. ReMinD blew up HoT's main base after fending off the AP push and finished off the game at his base alongside SoJu with a much better army.
They continued their winning habit in the second game with a streamline performance. SoJu kept canceling HoT's Tier 2 buildings which again led to an inadequate army for the Gravitas pair in the final face-off.
In spite of SK Gaming's latest addition, Dong Hwan 'viOlet' Kim couldn't steer his new team into the offline finals himself after defeats to Oleg 'TitaN' Kuptsov and June 'Lyn' Park wrote off the American team's hope with a brace against Mihail 'XyLigan' Ryabkov. The first game on Secret Valley had been one-sided since middle game. Lyn kept ensnaring the Russian player's footmen with his raiders and destroying his base one after another.
The second game turned out much more thrilling. XyLigan did a great job protecting his expansion in early game and canceled Lyn's expansion in his third attempt. He had had food advantage throughout the game, and together with his Orc opponent displayed some brilliant micro control. In spite of that, he failed to pull Lyn's expansion and helped the Korean raise a Level 7 killing machine and a Level 7 Shadow Hunter. These two heroes proved the difference when both sides' gold mine drained and Lyn was able to edge his valiant opponent and send SK Gaming through.
Starting before this match, Meet Your Makers drew 2-2 against mTw in another play-off. They'll have to await their fate tomorrow when long time rivals Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang and Dae Hui 'FoV' Cho go head-to-head in the crucial match.
Update:
The silver medalist of World Cyber Games 2008, Moon has given Meet Your Makers edge and slot the defending champion a chance to put up a fight on the cup again in the offline finals after defeating his fellow Korean FoV with a 2-0 win.
