The mysterious MMO has fans chomping at the bit as smokescreens continue to surround the project. Fans are still unsure as to the game's theme, though we are told it's neither Warcraft nor Starcraft related, instead something entirely new.
Next generation was the buzzword for the evening, "We want to create a great game," he said.
"Something that's cool, and new, and different, and kind of next generation in terms of look and feel and gameplay. That's a challenging endeavour."
When asked how far along the games development was, he said, "We're definitely at the beginning, in the first half of development."
"When we're building a new game from the ground up, what happens is that it’s slow going for the first bit, while the team goes round and round and round figuring out how it's going to look and feel, what the player experience is and what the differentiators are, and then the speed at which we then bring in the content and polish and actually get to the finish line... I think the second half of the process is always substantially faster than the first half of product development," he said.
As far as our first glimpse at solid details go, as per usual, Blizzard is tight lipped, "I don’t know yet."
"For us, we want to make sure that the gameplay and the experience that the players are going to have is fleshed out quite a bit," he said.
"The last thing we want to do is say, 'Hey we're doing this,' and everyone says, 'Oh cool,' and then we change things completely. We want to have a level of confidence that the direction we're going in is the right one, and that it's polished enough to be able to show something, also. And we're not in either of those places yet."
MMO's come and go quite literally day-to-day, but being the producers of the world's most successful MMO, World of Warcraft, certainly gives Blizzard a leg up on the competition. "The good news is that we've been able to do this with World of Warcraft, and so we have a lot of experience, so hopefully we've learnt a tremendous amount," explains Sams.
Statements about Blizzard's latest MMO are still few and far between, so at this point it really could be anything. However, assuming the news will rock the gaming community when details are released is probably a safe bet.

Wondering what Next Generation MMO means tbh for real :P
I can't say how Blizzard define next gen, but I'd be expecting to see the kinds of things that are featured in every MMO released afterwords.
WoW is now casual Diablo 3 is looking more casual SC2 is looking casual aswell according to pros so we can expect the same thing from this new game.
Maybe it will be soo enjoyable I really couldnt care about how casual it is.
Im not saying casual is bad but I enjoyed WoW when it was "hardcore".
Btw, i'm glad to see so many games from blizzard
Its already like 2-3 yrs old? Who would want to play something THAT old. (LOL'ing cos im a cs player-.-)
Times change and moods change and people get fed up with old games and want to try something new! Thats why!
uhm....around 11.000.000 people
I know 11mln people play it and probably love it, but still people usually get tired of playing one game for ever. Ofcourse also, the game-makers wouldnt have jobs if everyone played one or two games.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a7/UOPlayerInteraction.jpg big love
It would be very interesting to see some new franchises from Blizzard )
If u read the friggin post u see that it's not Warcraft nor StarCraft related.
And I'm guessing it's not Diablo related neither, seeing how they're workin on d3
They want two hit MMO's.
/sarcasm
Oh WOW...
