Years ago, Ivan Demidov was a professional gamer, first appearing in StarCraft: Broodwar competitions as a member of the famed Russian team "orky". He continued his career with Age of Empires, even attending WCG 2002 representing Russia in the aforementioned title.
After that, he was found competing with SK Gaming in Warcraft III competition, later retiring to play professional poker, as so many professional gamers do. Ivan was invited to join team PokerStars.net, after which he won the seat at the World Series of Poker main event final table.
The final table was all one-sided, the overall winner of the tournament, Peter Eastgate from Denmark, dictated his game to the other eight finalists.
Ivan Demidov had successfully made his way through seven opponents before facing Eastgate in his final head-to-head match.
Winning the final pot and eliminating Demidov in the last hand with a 2-5 straight saw Eastgate crowned the new 2008 WSOP champion.
The prize pool distribution:
1 $9,152,416 Peter Eastgate
2 $5,809,595 Ivan Demidov
3 $4,517,773 Dennis Phillips
4 $3,774,974 Ylon Schwartz

But well, before the final table, Soul said that the hardest enemy for him is Eastgate, because he was not able to read him at all ... but well, if you check out the hands that they had in heads up (and I mean not the only 2 hands ESPN broadcasted) .. no wonder that Eastgate won, lucky cards with big pots .. yeah.
The prizes are insanely high oO
poker tournaments are more like a lottery , you can't compare that to "sporting" events
with this money you can hopefully move out of your parents house once and for all!
That's my dream! (not to win in poker, but to move out of my parents' house)
As far as the tournaments go, the buy-ins are stupidly high.
So if Harrah's got $500 from each player at the main event then thats 6500x500 of pure profit.
Not to mention TV rights and other endorsements.
Keep going Ivan ;)
Pretty neet :D
i want to be in his place right now ._.
I don't understand how these pokersites can make a living... All the money goes to the players, nothing to the owner of the site etc.
BTW: Congratz Ivan! :D
and the WSoP buy in is 10k dollar per person. and with 6k+ people attending they got allready 60m dollar :)
First you got to play on the online tables and bet for real money.
Then you have to play poker tourney's online to get invited in the offline tourney's.
Then you have to pwn the offline tourney's to get in the bigger, more known tournaments.
Then you get invited by a pokerteam and then u can attend world's biggest tournaments with the ammount of prizemoney.
Takes alot of time.
Gratz!!! Be wise t
