Only a fortnight after 8 000 Warcraft players were banned after being "found to be using third-party hacks", Blizzard has dealt another crushing blow to cheaters across Battle.net - a six digit blow.

Over 350 000 Starcraft and Diablo II players awoke this morning to find their accounts banned and their CD keys negated.

However, in the case of Diablo II the ban is not permanent. For whatever reason Blizzard has decided to show Diablo players leniency and reactivate their accounts after thirty days. If the player is then caught re-offending their CD key will be deactivated permanently.

"As part of our continued effort to ensure a fair and fun online experience for all Battle.net players, we have expanded our efforts to remove cheaters from StarCraft and Diablo II," Blizzard said in an official statement.

"As a reminder, we reserve the right to close the accounts and ban the CD keys of players who are caught cheating on Battle.net. Cheating ruins the game experience for legitimate players, and we will not tolerate it."
