The first big upset has been made already with the German Team Alternate losing to both k23 and mTw and are almost certain to be knocked out of the World Cyber Games being hosted in their own country. Alternate had a good start against mTw but were not able to get the needed three points.

Team Alternate already lost to k23 on de_tuscan earlier today and it is not quite sure if they just underestimated them. K23 played a great match nonetheless and it looks like they will go through to the playoffs.

This deciding match was played as a Stage Match and broadcast by several WCG commentators in different languages. The map probably more favored mTw being de_train and also starting on the Counter-Terrorist side but Alternate had some great rounds in the first half winning 1v3 and 2v4 situations finishing the first half with 5-10.

Alternate also won the important pistol round but due to mTw being able to plan the bomb, they decided to buy in the second round and won that one. Even though Alternate had a small comeback they were not able to beat mTw and lost with 12-18 in the end. This means they are almost out of the tournament unless k23 lose to both mTw and ATE as well as Alternate winning neWave and get a better round difference than k23.

Looking at the performance of k23 so far this is unlikely to happen and they will get a chance to show what they're capable of in the playoffs. The next big match will be MYM vs MiBr on the livestream, check the event page for more information.
