A new esports documentary called "Beyond the Game" by the celebrated filmmaker Jos de Putter is scheduled to premiere at a festival in Amsterdam on November 21.

"Beyond the Game" will have its first screening at the International Documentary Film Festival on November 20-30. The director of the film is one of the most outstanding Dutch directors in his field.

The film features Xiaofeng 'Sky' Li and Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen portrayed as "gunslingers in the build-up to the decisive duel" and their rivalry. Here is how the film's synopsis describes the picture:

"The contrast between the real world and the world of computer games is the leitmotif of Beyond the Game, Jos de Putter's documentary about the top players of Warcraft. The film follows the Chinese contestant 'Sky' and the Dutch 'Grubby', two arch-rivals who will meet again during the upcoming world championship. The filmmaker also visits heroes from the past. The Swedish 'MadFrog' thinks back wistfully to his heyday, whereas his parents particularly remember their worries about his health."

The filming took place in China, The Netherlands, Sweden, France (at the ESWC 2007 finals) and the US (at the WCG 2007 finals). You can find out more about the film from the blog about it.

"Beyond the Game" is the second major esports documentary this year after "FRAG" which debuted in April.
